Dunblane Summer School 2024

The 25th annual Dunblane Summer School will take place in Dunblane Cathedral between 22 and 25 July. It begins at lunchtime on the Monday and ends with a Communion Service on Thursday morning.

The course will be directed by Matthew Beetschen with the support of vocal tutors Susan Hamilton and Frances McCafferty and workshop leaders Ian Munro and Alistair Warwick. Kevin Duggan will play the mighty Dunblane Flentrop organ.

Services and workshops

As ever the focus is on singing, with services in the Cathedral Monday-Wednesday at 5.30, and the Thursday morning Communion Service.

Workshops will be held each afternoon, and there will be a chance to work individually with both Susan and Frances for those who wish.

Course options

Please come for the whole Course or sign up for a day. The cost of refreshments during the day is included in the price – an evening meal is available at the excellent Dunblane Riverside restaurant at an extra cost.

What will we be singing?

The service music will include:

A celebration of 500 years of church music in a range of styles.

“The Auld Alliance” – Exclusively Scottish and French music, celebrating the centenary of Gabriel Fauré and including his sublime Cantique de Jean Racine.

Festal Choral Evensong and the Dedication of Church Music Scotland.

Canticles will be sung to Stanford in G and the anthem will be A New Song by James MacMillan.

Music by Mozart, John Rutter, and Gordon Appleton (founder of the course).
